Regardless of the venerable tendency within British culture - principally through the braying voices of our varying politicians and mass media corporations - to stoically condemn the countless human rights breaches and general bloodletting that has come to define our popular understanding of the Palestinian conflict - never forget that it is an environment that WE ENGENDERED.
Among the multitude of consciously conflicting treaties made by the British Government throughout WW1 to various independence-vying Arab peoples, (of which this is a microcosm - if only the most disastrous), the creation of a Jewish Nation State within already long-settled lands of diametrically opposed religious background; (namely a distinct majority of both Muslims and Christians), stands out as perhaps the most ignorant, immoral, and utterly heedless one of them all. Playing puppet-master in the Middle East had proved problematic since British colonial interests began in the region in the beginning of the 19th century, and the horrific clusterfuck that the situation has developed into over the last one hundred years is only the most recent and explosive example of broken oaths, military blackmailing, and multifarious sworn-loyalties by our own beloved sovereign nation. Before we, as British citizens, make the judgement to condemn or uphold the actions of both the Palestinians or the Israelis - let us be reminded of the poisonous nature of our nation’s orchestration of this conflict, and the indelible mark of responsibility it carries for the same; a bloody hysteria with no end or resolution in sight. Now more than ever I ask, if you’re a British patriot - what the fuck is wrong with you.
